Our kindred T. and N.
For the summer memorial day of our Venerable Father Superior and Prince St. Sergius I want to send you a greeting. You have probably already returned from your trip to California and you are living again there, close to the memorial Chapel, and which the heartfelt Light is inextinguishable. I will not write to you about the American affairs, for you, of course, know about them no less than we do from Maurice and Sina. Such abuse and illegal actions have opened. But we will look to the future; the terrestrial waves and we never know, which of the paths prepared by the Higher Wisdom is the best. By this time we have collected many kind signs, arriving from totally new areas, from unexpected people. We do not know whence the new friends come, but it is touching to read their appeals and to hear about their wonderful actions. Even though Harbin turned out to be a nest of much filth before Vas'ka Ivanov included, but even there three of our fraternities are active. They are working deeply without touching any dark individuals. The most curious, is that in all three fraternities there is not one person whose name we would have heard earlier. These are all interesting, devoted cultured people. Also not without interest, is that the "Holy Patrol" being forbidden half a year, suddenly appeared on the market of Paris, Riga and other cities. This mystery, we have not yet solved. Besides the Harbin fraternities there are Fraternities active in Shanghai and one formed in March in Tsindao. I am sending you an excerpt from a greeting word received not long ago from the Chairman of the Tsindao Fraternity. These were all pleasant surprises for us, just like the offer of our Fraternity in Riga to print the first part of my last writing notebooks under the title "Gates into the Future". We have also recently received news from Australia, that even there our Society is active for the second year. And we have not even heard about it before. We also have good news from South America and some European countries. So instead of a pile of slanderers, skeptics and illiterates there have occurred completely new arrivals of friends. Not without reason it is said, that slander is the torch of savages. These fires illuminate many faces, and all knowledge is beneficial. It is characteristic to note, that in Paris, Mar. fearing slander fell through right away with his entire party. Overall if we look at the small pile of the loosened ones we can truly say: glory to God, that the Venerable Sergius has saved us from such personalities. To what extent the case has gone in the previous years, that monk Ioann inquired by writing what the twelve stones set around the chapel in Churaevka mean. When I jokingly told about it to Metropolitan Evlogy, he really laughed and said that I should know, what is prejudiced about the number 12, even if such stones existed around the church; overall the "cobwebs" of the slanderers stuns with its rudeness and ignorance. I simply want to tell them—be more honest. Now we hear that the obscurant Vas. Ivanov received a Karlovac Synod charter for cursing over Peter the Great, Kutuzov, Pushkin and all those by whom the Russian land is holy. And such limits of delusions happen. Of course you have heard about the formation of the Committee of Friends. To be fair, our Russian groups in Paris have shown themselves from the best firm side. I will say more that especially now the contact has strengthen with those, whom we have counted as the most valuable even earlier. Of course you have heard, that "Degeneration" having reprinted the slander has turned out to be a provocative newspaper: Fren. Gen. Headquarters was forced to make an investigation in the editorial office which ended in an arrest. However you are aware of all this better than us, for Paris is closer to you. One thing upsets me—the ill health of E. I. Again there were strong inflammations of the centers with pains, high temperatures. She laid in bed for over two weeks. Thus in the Name of the Venerable Father Superior and Prince we send you a greeting—we are always glad for you news and we know, that unbreakable is your spirit and labor, which searches for beauty and truth. Pass along our greeting to all the friends—at the place you can see better to whom—do you see the Savadskys and darling Ninochka? Good souls—may God give them all kinds of luck. Наверное Вы уже вернулись из Вашей поездки в Калифорнию и опять живете там,по близости от памятной Часовни, около которой неугасим Свет сердечный. Не буду писать Вам об американских делах, ибо от Мориса и Зины Вы, конечно, знаете о них не менее нашего. Вот какие злоупотребления и незаконные действия открылись. Но будем смотреть в будущее; преходящие волны земные и никогда не знаем, который из путей преготованных Высшей Премудростью лучший. За это время у нас накопились многие добрые знаки, приходящие из совсем новых областей, от людей нежданных. Не ведаем откуда приходят новые друзья, но трогательно читать их обращения и слышать о их прекрасных действиях. Хотя Харбин оказался гнездом всяких скверн до Васьки Иванова включительно, но и там действуют три наших содружества. Работают углубленно не касаясь всяких темных личностей. Главное же любопытно, что во всех трех содружествах нет ни одного человека имени которого мы слышали-бы раньше. Все это интересные, преданные культурные люди. Также не лишено интереса, что "Священный Дозор" пробыв под запретом полтора года, вдруг оказался на рынке Парижа, Риги и др. городов. Сию тайну, мы еще не разгадали. Кроме Харбинских содружеств действуют Содружества в Шанхае и образовавшееся в Марте в Циндао. Посылаю Вам полученное нами недавно извлечение из приветственного слова произнесенного Председателем Циндаоскаго Содружества. Все это были для нас приятные сюрпризы, также как и предложение нашего Общества в Риге напечатать первую часть моих последних записных листов под заглавием "Врата в Будущее". Также недавно получили мы известие из Австралии, что и там уже второй год действует наше Общество. А ведь об этом мы и не слыхивали. И еще имеем добрые вести уз южной Америки и некоторых Европейских стран. Итак вместо кучки клеветников, маловеров и невежд получились совершенно новые привхождения друзей. Недаром сказано, что клевета есть факелы дикарей. Эти огни освещают многие лики, а ведь всякое знание полезно. Характерно отметить, что Мар. в Париже убоявшийся клеветы сразу же провалился и со свею своею партией. Вообще если мы посмотрим на небольшую кучку отвалившихся то поистине можно сказать: слава Богу, что Преподобный Сергий упас от таких личностей. Ведь до чего доходило дело в прошлые годы, что монах Иоанн письменно запрашивал меня что значит двенадцать камней поставленных вокруг часовни в Чураевке. Когда я в шутку рассказал Митрополиту Эвлогию, то он очень смеялся и говорил бы я знать, что предсудительного в числе 12, если бы даже такие камни существовали вокруг церкви; вообще "хитросплетение" клеветников поражает своею и грубостью и невежественностью. Просто хочется сказать им- будьте честнее. Теперь слышим что мракобес Вас. Иванов получил Карловацкую Синодальную грамоту за то, что он изругал Петра Великого, Кутузова, Пушкина и всех кем светла земля русская. И такие пределы заблуждений бывают. Вы конечно слышали об образовании Комитета Друзей. Нужно отдать справедливость, наши русские группы в Париже выказали себя с самой лучшей твердой стороны.
