Written in a large medium-grade textualis.
The recto is the flesh side of the parchment. There are some minor signs of wear, especially in the lower right-hand corner (recto) as a result of page turning, perhaps also at the middle of the outside margin (right). There is a reddish-brown smudge. Otherwise the leaf is in good condition. In the top right-hand corner (recto) the leaf is foliated in ink with the arabic numeral 49.
The leaf is from a Latin ritual. The text is written in unusually large letters; one line of text (excluding ascenders and descenders) is measured at 3/8 in (1 cm). This and the size of the leaf indicates a hymnal/missal for use by more than one reader during mass. There are 21 lines of text in single column. The first five lines on the recto side are used for two lines of musical notation, consisting of red lines with black numes. Sections are separated by use of alternating blue and red decorated capitals, although this alternation is once violated on line 20 recto where a red capital appears instead of a blue. Within the larger sections the letters "p", "v", "a" and "R" indicate breaks. The first letter of each section, both the higher order and lower order sections, are decorated with yellow coloring (except the larger decorated capitals).
On the recto side is a large blue capital "E" (for the word "Ecce"), which has obviously been mistaken for an A. The confusion apparently existed among the original users of the manuscript, since the word "ecce" is inserted in the margin (with insertion mark after "dei"), indicating that the first word of the line was not understood.
The readings represented on the leaf indicate that this page is part of a mass around Christmastide, probably one of the masses on the Octave of Christmas, since most of the hymns on this leaf are commonly part of the services for that day. The different portions are:
1. " + Deus Filium suum misit in similitudine carnis peccati alleluia", the last portion of an antiphon, deriving ultimately from Augustine's Expositio quarumdam propositionum ex epistola ad romanos.
2. "Dominus dixit ad me...", from Psalm 2: 7
3. "In sole posuit...", from Psalm 18: 6
4. "Elevamini porte eternales...", Psalm 23: 7/9
5. "Ecce agnus dei...", from John 1 (various)
