With this anniversary we add one more year to the age of the Christian Association, and with that year an increase of vigor and usefulness. Whatever success, or good, may have resulted from our labors, we owe it all to that kind and merciful Providence whose watchful care has been over us and by whose Spirit we have been guided and cheered in our efforts to advance the cause of our blessed Saviour. It cannot be expected that our Annual Reports should differ much, as our work is special in its character, and the difference can only exist in the greater or less dmount of labor performed and its results. It is gratifying to report that there has been no retrogade movement in our operations, and in nearly if not quite all branches of our work, there has been a steady though not rapid advancement, yet as great perhaps as the somewhat limited means at our disposal would permit. The association, however, is not feeble or languid, and the spirit which animates its membership betokens the approach of a day of greater usefulness. The moral power which concentrates in a membership of nearly 1000 active Christian young men, in the City of New York, a power ready to be called into play whenever opportunity presents, cannot be over estimated. God in His wisdom has lodged much force in the Christian Association, and when our Christian men, and the churches, fully see this, and feel its truth, we cannot doubt that we shall receive a greater degree of sympathy and pecuniary support from those who should be found now doing for us, what they have neglected to do in years gone by. We have the heads to conceive and the hands to perform God's work among the young men of our City, and shall labor on, knowing that the seed we sow will not fail to produce its fruit, both in time and in eternity. The thousands of young men who come to this City from their peaceful, moral homes in the country, seeking homes, business and companionship herewho shall meet them when they come ? That is a question for the Christian public to answer. Those who know anything about the perils of City life, understand full well the dangers which beset their path ; we propose to meet them when they enter our metropolis, to win their confidence and to extend that kindly sympathy which shall secure it forever, and thus to lead them in virtue's path, and save them from the temptations to which so many yield and are lost. We are sure we do not err when we assert, that the Christian Associations of the world are valuable instrumentalities which Christian wisdom has instituted to presjnt a successful barrier to the attractions with which Satan gilds his \"\" pathways to the gates of death.\"\" Of the power of association we need not speak, it is well understood. We may say briefly that it is our experience that hundreds of young men have been introduced into our Society who probably would never have found their way into our church organizations, and many of them are now the most energetic and active of our Christian men. No less than twenty-two of our Associate members have been converted during the past year, and are now enrolled upon the church records, as worthy members of the several denominations to which they have attached themselves. And yet, with such facts as these, we are desirous that our Pastors should not think that we design to interfere with the IT special work of the ministry. We, propose to aid them, and we are sure they will gladly accept the services which we cordially tender ; and we embrace this opportunity to bear testimony to the uniform kindness which we have experienced at the hands of the Clergy of this city, and for the confidence which they have reposed in us. We hope the young men of our churches will study the character of the work which the Association proposes to do, and we are sure it will meet with their approbation and their support. Wo now call attention to a rapid survey of our operations during the year, as exhibited by the action of the several standing committees. Jiteg Committee. Our Rooms have been liberally supplied with the best current Literature of the day, no less than 18 Magazines, 47 daily and weekly, and 13 monthly Papers, and 9 Quarterly Reviews, have been placed on our tables. 51 volumes have been added to the library, which now contains 2,338 volumes. An effort was made last year to establish a Free Library of reference for the Bible Student, but owing to the want of the necessary means, nothing has been done. We hope that we shall soon be able to carry out this design. The devotional, as well as the monthly meetings have been generally well attended. The Wednesday Evening Prayer Meeting has probably done more to build up and strengthen our operations than any other. Many have been awakened, and some have been converted through their instrumentality. The meetings are social in their character and just suited to our membership. We call especial attention to these pleasant gatherings, and hope they will be more largely attended ; to 3 tliem, all are cordially invited, the members and their unconverted Friends, the one to gain strength in their devotions and the other to seek the Saviour, and find in Him those joys which are not bounded by this world's cares and toils. There have been printed and circulated nearly three thousand copies of the 6th Animal Report, with a Sermon by the Rev. R. S. Storrs, Jr., D. D., preached before the Association on Sabbath Evening of Anniversary week, upon \"\"The Law of Growth in the Kingdom of God.\"\" The amount expended by this committee is $263.60. Much good might be accomplished by issuing at suitable intervals, \"\" Occasional Papers,\"\" upon subjects relating to the social and spiritual interests of young men; and here, as in other parts of our work, we are suffering from the want of means to extend our usefulness and the Master's kingdom. The duties devolving upon this Committee are the most responsible and delicate of any, as is readily understood by all who have attempted to secure employment for the young, and yet our labors have been attended with a good degree of success, and might have been much more so did our merchants understand that here they could procure good and faithful Christian young men as clerks, and for other employment. A merchant of Savannah, Ga., was desirous of procuring a clerk, and applied to our Committee. They immediately supplied him with a young man of moral worth and ability, and recently the Committee received a letter from the merchant thanking them for securing to him the services of so good a man. Printing w ||ni)lisljing (famiM A young man desirous of preparing for the ministry was others have been provided with situations, and others have been advised and counseled by the Committee. It is proper to remark that all those who have thus far applied, and have been aided, are not members of our own or of any other Association, and yet the Committee have in every case done their best to further the interests of all the deserving who have called upon them for their services. Our Boarding House Register has been very carefully prepared and revised, and is the most perfect record of the kind anywhere to be found. More than one hundred and twenty boarding houses arc registered, and all of them are such as the Committee recommend as in every way reliable, where Christian homes may be secured. Applications arc daily made for the use of the Register both by our citizens and by strangers. Recently a young man arrived from England on Thursday and by Saturday night, by the aid of the Committee, was comfortably lodged in a Christian home. This is only one of the hundreds of instances that occur during the year, and we wish our country friends could all bo made acquainted with the fact that we should delight to aid all who come to this city seeking homes, or on temporary visits. Let no pastor or parent hesitate to give letters of introduction to the Association ; we know the importance to the young, when they come to this City, that they come to Christian friends, and we offer to all such our warmest attentions and Christian sympathies. The lease of the premises, No. 32 Waverley Place, which we properly taken care of and is now pursuing his studies. Two had occupied for the last three years, having expired, and feeling that it was important that we should be located on Broadway, the Board of Directors made early efforts to secure suitable rooms on that thoroughfare, and were fortunate in hiring the rooms on the corner of Broadway and 12th Street, which they arejfitting up, and will have ready for occupancy in the course of twelve days. This location we esteem to be the best (for our purpose) on Broadway, and we have every reason to believe that our rooms will be more largely frequented by our members and others than ever before. They are on the second floor of the building, and of easy access; it is our purpose to make them very attractive, so that all will find it pleasant to spend their unoccupied hours in them. Jettec Committee. A series of lectures have been delivered before the Association during the season, byiP,ev.rDrs. Tyng and Storrs, and Rev. H. W. Beccher, and Sabbath evening sermons have been preached by Rev. Dr. Magoon of Albany, Professor Wilson of Allegheny City, Pa, Dr. Clark of Hartford, Rev. Peter Stryker, Dr. Morgan, Rev. Mr. Dutcher, and others of this city. The most of these sermons have been well attended, and have undoubtedly resulted in good to the young, for whose special benefit they were delivered. Our Second Annual Festival, or Tea Gathering, was held at Mozart Hall on the evening of January 12th, and was largely attended. The addresses delivered on the occasion by the Rev. John M. Krcbs, D. D., Rev. Henry Martyn Scudder, M. D., Rev. A. D. Gillette, D. D., Rev. A. Kingman Nott, Hon. Hiram Ketchum, Geo. H. Stuart, Esq., of Philadelphia, Prof. 0. M. Mitchell and others, were much to the point, and the whole entertainment proved the propriety of cultivating the social ele- merit of our organization with a care second only to that given to the spiritual, if, indeed, they can be considered distinct. A reference to the Treasurer's report will give the necessary information as to the expenses of the Association. We repeat, we have been seriously cramped in our efforts to do good from the want of funds, and hope the friends of the cause will not suffer us longer to lack the means to make this Association the most useful in our land. Wo confidently hope that Christian men will not overlook what others are doing for the associations of Boston, Philadelphia, London, and other places. We must be sustained. Seven years of labor comparatively unaided by our churches, with results for goodsuch as our history showscannot but bo a recommendation, and feeling as we do that we possess a great moral power, which can, nay must be exerted upon this city, we claim in the name of Him whom we serve, and whose cause we are laboring to advance, not only an interest in their sympathy and prayers, but pecuniar}' aid, and their personal presence to counsel and advise. With these encouragements we doubt not our labors would be much more efficient for good. We cannot overlook the fact that there exist in our several churches, associations of young men, whose objects are somewhat similar, especially in their social character. We have, it is true, looked upon the increasing number of these local organizations with distrust, regarding them as calculated to sap the foundation of our own. Prom a closer and more careful examination we are fully satisfied that we are mistaken, and that they can be made -to produce favorable results to our Association. We therefore hail the formation of these Associations, and bid them God speed in their labors. In those already in active operation, we recognize among their most active and zealous members the very best men of our own body. \"\"The field is the world and the harvest is ripe,\"\" and the more laborers we can bring into the field the better for the cause of our common Christianity. We are looking forward to the time when all of these local bodies shall be represented in the General Association, and thus extend their usefulness. The subject we are sure will receive the early attention of the new Board of Directors, and prompt action will result therefrom. jCornsprabtitte, tic. During the year the Corresponding Secretary has received many letters from kindred associations, both in our own and other lands. It is gratifying to note the prominence into which many of the institutions have been brought by the \"\" great awakening,\"\" and the marked influence for good which they have been permitted to exert among all classes of the people. The daily noon meetings originated, as we believe, by members of our own association, and under Heaven, so wonderfully blessed on this continent, have been established in the old world, and attended with the happiest results. The Second E^unien^ical^ Conference of the Associations covened at Geneva, Switzerland, in August last, and was attended by delegates from Great Britain, France, Sweden, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Sardinia, Australia and America. The sessions continued during four days, and many valuable practical papers were presented, and many pleasant and profitable discussions had by the delegates. At the conclusion the following resolutions were adopted, viz : The Delegates of the Young Men's Christian Associations of all countries, met in Conference at Geneva, invite the Members of all the Young Men's Christian Associations 1. To be more watchful over their own conduct, and not to neglect the obligations involved in the public testimony they have rendered by joining the Young Men's Christian Association. 2. Not to forget that while the Young Men's Christian-Association is formed in part to unite them in one common love, it is above all for the active purpose of the evangelization of Young Men. It is only by courageously'laboring to bring Young Men to the Loud Jesus Christ that the Association can be maintained and receive blessing. 3. After having examined the question of the need of recreation natural to Young Men, Ought it to occupy the attention of the Young Men's Christian Association ? In ichat measure can the Association satisfy. it 1 The Delegates recognise that the Associations ought to occupy themselves with this need of recreation, but as sanctifying itleaving to each Association a certain liberty to choose the nature and the mode of recreation according to national taste and local conveniences. 4. The Delegates, in the most pressing manner, urge the Association to form in their midst Meetings for Special Prayer, and as regularly as possible, for the outpouring of the Holy Spiiit, and a new awakening throughout the whole world. It should bo observed that the Resolutions adopted by the Conference, express the opinions and feelings of the assembled Brethren, but were not designed to bind any of the Associations, which are in no way responsible for their views, though the members generally will doubtless gratefully respond to their earnest and affectionate counsels. The Associations in America now number about 200 ; in Great Britain 1U0 ; in France. 70 ; in Germany 90 ; in Switzerland 70 ; in Holland 17 ; in Australia 4 ; with an aggregate membership (of all classes) of not far from 50,000 young mena noble army indeed, and one well calculated to alarm the hosts of sin. The first conference of the British Associations was held at Leeds, in September last. It was an occasion of much interest. We have been privileged to welcome at our meetings many friends from other associations, both at home and abroad, and take this opportunity to thank them for their good cheer, and to invite all who may be visiting our metropolis to give us a friendly call : \"\" As iron sharpeneth iron, so doth the countenance of a man his friend.\"\" We would further thank our brethren of other Associations for the fellowship extended to those of our own members who during the year have had occasion to visit them. Travel is now doubly agreeable to the Christian young man in that at every point he may meet those of his own age and sympathies ready to greet him in the Holy name of Jesus, and make his sojourn \"\" as at a friend's house.\"\" And now, judging by the past, we are confident that by the Divine blessing, the future of our beloved Association will be yet more abundant in gratifying and substantial results. We commend it and all kindred organizations for the spiritual well-being of young men, to the prayers of God's people, and the sympathy of a generous public. BENJAMIN P. MANIERRE, President. God in His wisdom has lodged much force in the Christian Association, and when our Christian men, and the churches, fully see this, and feel its",

And yet, with such facts as these, we are desirous that our Pastors should not think that we design to interfere with the",
