Yeng was born in Moos Manj, Laos. She and her family fled across the Mekong River into Thailand after the communist takeover of Laos. She lived in Nong Khai and Ban Vinai Camps in Thailand. She has 10 surviving children, 11 in total. She emigrated in 1988 to America.

Xia Phia Yang was born in Laos into a family of 12. His family fled to Thailand in 1979. They lived in the Ban Vinai refugee camp until 1992, and there he went to school, worked as a nurse and a public health worker, and started a family of his own. Song Vue was born in Laos in 1934. After the communist victory in Laos in 1975, Song, her husband, children, and many relatives fled to the jungles and later to Thailand, where they arrived in May 1979. She and her family lived in Thai refugee camps for more than a decade before coming to the United States in 1992-93.

Mor was born in Laos. Her husband joined the "Secret War" in Laos against the communists. Her husband, her children, and her grandson were killed. Mor arrived in the United States in 1978.

Manichan was born in Muang Cha, Laos. She is the daughter of Zam Va Yang and the wife of Colonel Shong Leng Xiong. She is a survivor of the Secret War in Laos. Her family helped American soldiers during the war, and she lost her grandfather after helping an American pilot. Manichan arrived in U.S. in 1993.

Lue was born in 1945 in Xiangnan, Zieng Khouang, Laos. He fought against the communists in the "Secret War" in Laos. When the communists took over the country, he left and came to the United States in 1979.

Cha Neng Vang was born in Laos in 1954. At the age of 14 he began playing the qeej. After entering the refugee camp he stopped playing the instrument until after he came to the United States in 2000.

Bee was born in Xieng Khouang, Laos. His father died during the “Secret War” in Laos. Bee immigrated to the US in 1987 with his wife and children. He first settled in Wisconsin and later moved to Minnesota. He is currently the director of the Volunteers of America Park Elder Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
