The Krishna Delta canal system in what is now Andhra Pradesh was completed in 1855 to irrigate half a million hectares of the Krishna River Delta. Bezwada is the city now called Vijayawada, located in Krishna District.

The Bhimgoda barrage is on the Ganges river upstream of the city of Haridwar in what is now the state of Uttaranchal. The barrage feeds water to Haridwar via a canal. The British constructed the barrage in the 19th century to address the problem of recurring floods. The Ganges Canal takes off on the downstream side of Haridwar.

The Sarda canal was built between 1915 and 1926 to provide protective irrigation between the Ganges and Ghaghara basins in Pilibhit, Kheri, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Barabanki, Rae Barielly, Faizabad, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Allahabad, and Varanasi Districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The Rohri Canal in what is now Sindh Province, Pakistan, gets its water supply from the Sukkur Barrage on the Indus River. Bagarji is about 8 miles from Sukkur.
