Four-time gold medal winner Lasse Viren ran the FinnFest torch through the main streets of Houghton and Hancock, through the Suomi campus and lit the FinnFest flame to open the festival. Herer after participating in one of the scheduled runs during the day. FinnFest USA "Gala Kalevala", Suomi College, Hancock, Michigan; July 25-28, 1985.
