Noise in imaging systems rarely conforms to the simple IID additive white Gaussian noise model. This talk starts with a brief overview of alternative noise models that can be adopted in practical applications. We emphasize two noise models: signal-dependent variance models and stationary spatially correlated models. We particularly focus on the ...

The intertwined processes of platelet deposition and coagulation canlead to the development of blood clots inside a blood vessel or on animplanted medical device. Their disregulation is responsible forimmense morbidity and mortality, particularly in the western world. The development of a blood clot involves complex interactions of diversetype (e...

Discretizations of PDEs have traditionally relied on structured meshes. Requirements for geometric flexibility, both to conform to highly irregular geometries as in topographical and urban features as well as to achieve local refinement in critical areas, have led to an increased use of unstructured meshes, often in the form of polygonal-type el...

Keywords: meshless methods, radial basis functions, geosciences Abstract: The most classical approach for solving PDEs numerically is finite difference methods (FD). Although they are easy to implement, their accuracy is often low. In contrast, pseudospectral methods (PS) can give spectral (exponential) convergence but suffer from severe geometr...

Joint work with S. R. McAllister. The protein folding question has developed over the past four decades as one of the most challenging and potentially rewarding problems in computational biology. Three general classes of algorithms have emerged, based on the techniques of comparativemodeling, fold recognition, and first principles methods. For a ...
