The F5 algorithm is a signature based algorithm to compute Gröbner bases for modules over polynomial rings. The F5 signature allows to exploit commutativity relations in order to avoid redundant computations. When considering modules over path algebra quotients, one can instead exploit the quotient relations to avoid redundancies. For my applicat...

A tipping point occurs when adjusting one or more parameters ofa system causes it to transition abruptly to a new state. Examples includedesertification due to grazing, financial crises, and drastic shiftsobserved in past climate states. Data from such systems, whether 'realworld' or model-derived, may provide interesting insight into the system...

DNA twist step-parameters are in common use in thecommunity of structural biologists. If, for a molecule with aclosed axial curve, the writhing number, a measure of thechiral distortion of the axial curve of the molecule fromplanarity, is added to the sum over all steps of such twists, the result has no particular significance. This is in markedc...

We introduce a new notion of (weak) transport cost on the Euclidean space that, with the help of the Kantorovich duality presented in the lecture by Paul-Marie Samson on Thursday, will give rise to some applications: (1) a new very short proof of a result by Strassen, (2) a characterization of those probablity measures satisfying the log-Sobolev...

Two phase fluid flows on substrates (i.e. wetting phenomena) are important in many industrial processes, such as micro-fluidics and coating flows. These flows include additional physical effects that occur near moving (three-phase) contact lines. We present a new 2-D variational (saddle-point) formulation of a Stokesian fluid with surface tensio...
