Monument marking position of 1818 moraine, about 100 yards up valley from 1602 moraine of Rhone Glacier. Another monument marks position of ice front in 1856 but no moraine there. There is a strong moraine between 1818 and 1856 positions. 1818 moraine is strongest of all.
