Belle "Bella" Friedman" was born in Chicago in 1916. Her parents and older siblings had emigrated from Lithuania in 1914. Bella married Haskell Friedman, who was also from a family of Jewish immigrants from Lithuania, in 1940. They raised their family in Jainesville, Wisconsin, where they ran a general store.
